2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E: NJ EV Incentives and Rebates Buyers Should Know

Ford Mustang Mach-E NJ EV incentives

If you've been researching the 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E and you're seeing references to a $7,500 federal tax credit, stop. That credit ended on September 30, 2025 for new vehicle purchases and leases. Any calculator or dealership still showing it is working from expired rules.

That doesn't mean there's nothing left for NJ buyers, there are still meaningful Ford Mustang Mach-E rebate NJ worth understanding before you sign anything.

What Happened to the Federal EV Tax Credit?

The federal Section 30D clean vehicle credit, worth up to $7,500 on qualifying new EVs, was repealed effective for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. There is no federal EV tax credit to claim on a new 2026 Mach-E purchase or lease in New Jersey. This applies to every buyer regardless of income.

The used EV federal credit also ended on the same date. There is no Mustang Mach-E tax credit in NJ of any kind available to NJ buyers purchasing a new or used Mach-E in 2026.

What NJ EV Incentives Are Still Available?

Charge Up New Jersey - Up to $4,000

Charge Up New Jersey is the state's primary New Jersey EV rebate program for 2026, administered by the NJ Board of Public Utilities. Here is the current structure for 2026:

  • Base rebate: $1,500 point-of-sale discount on an eligible new battery-electric vehicle, applied directly at a participating NJ dealership. No income requirement for the base amount.

  • Charge Up+ bonus: An additional $2,500 for income-qualified buyers, for a total of up to $4,000. Charge Up+ requires income prequalification before the purchase or lease, you cannot apply after the sale.

Eligibility requirements for the Mach-E:

  • Vehicle must be a new, battery-electric vehicle (BEV), the Mach-E qualifies

  • MSRP must be under $55,000

  • Must be purchased or leased at a participating NJ dealership

  • Vehicle must be registered and titled in New Jersey

  • Buyer must remain a New Jerset resident for at least two years after the vehicle transaction date.

Does the 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E Qualify for Charge Up New Jersey?

Yes; most Charge Up NJ Mustang Mach-E trims qualify, but eligibility is determined by the vehicle's MSRP relative to the program's $55,000 cap, and by the program having active funding at the time of purchase. The Mach-E is a battery-electric vehicle (BEV), which meets the vehicle type requirement. It must be purchased or leased at a participating NJ dealership, registered and titled in New Jersey, and the buyer must remain a New Jersey resident for at least two years after the transaction date.

Important funding note: Charge Up NJ is funded on a fiscal year basis and has closed before funding runs out. The FY27 Charge Up New Jerset program launched July 1,2026. Incentives remain subject to available program funding, so buyers should confirm current status before purchase. Confirm the program is currently funded and that your specific vehicle is on the eligible model list before counting on this rebate. All American Ford of Hackensack can confirm current program status at time of purchase.

NJ Sales Tax - A Recent Change Worth Knowing

New Jersey’s EV sales tax exemption, which had exempted qualifying EVs from the state’s 6.625% sales tax, phased out and full tax began July 1, 2025. EVs purchased after that date are subject to the full NJ state sales tax.

On a $40,595 Mach-E Premium RWD, the full 6.625% NJ sales tax comes to approximately $2,689. This is no longer offset by a state exemption, so it is a real cost to factor into your total purchase price.

Utility Rebates - PSE&G and Others

For Hackensack and surrounding Bergen County residents, utility-based EV charger rebates remain available and can be stacked with Charge Up NJ:

  • PSE&G (PSEG New Jersey): Offers rebates of $250 to $500 on qualifying Level 2 home EV charger installation for residential customers. Exact amount varies based on charger type and installation specifics.

  • Charge Up NJ Home Charger Rebate: Separately from the vehicle rebate, Charge Up NJ offers up to $250 toward the purchase of an eligible Level 2 home charger.

These charger rebates are separate from the vehicle purchase incentive and can be applied whether or not the vehicle rebate is currently funded.

The 2026 Mach-E received a heat pump as standard equipment across all trims, a meaningful update for NJ buyers who drive in winter conditions, as heat pumps are significantly more efficient than resistive heating in cold weather, preserving real-world range on cold days.

For Hackensack and Bergen County residents making regular GWB or Route 4 commutes, the Select RWD's up to 260-mile range on the standard battery is sufficient for most daily use. The Premium RWD with the extended-range battery at up to 320 miles addresses range anxiety for buyers who make longer trips regularly.

Ford Explorer Hackensack NJ

2026 Ford Explorer Hackensack, NJ: How It Handles North Jersey Roads

Hackensack is a dense Bergen County city with busy local streets and major commuter routes such as Route 4. It has a population density of over 10,983 people per square mile and a daytime population that swells as commuters flow in from surrounding towns. Route 4, which passes directly through Hackensack, is a divided arterial highway with right-in/right-out intersections and heavy commercial traffic, one of the more demanding daily driving environments in North Jersey. Lodi sits adjacent, sharing similar density and road character. The assumption most buyers make is that a three-row SUV this size belongs in the suburbs, not the city. The 2026 Ford Explorer challenges that assumption in a few specific ways. What Are the 2026 Ford Explorer's Dimensions and How Do They Play Out on Hackensack's Roads? Size anxiety is real for SUV buyers in dense urban areas. Here are the actual numbers: Spec 2026 Ford Explorer Length 198.8 inches Height 69.6 inches Width (without mirrors) 78.9 inches Ground Clearance 7.6 inches Wheelbase 119.1 inches Cargo Volume (all seats up) 16.3 cu ft Max Cargo Volume 85.8 cu ft At 198.8 inches, the Explorer is a full-size three-row SUV. It is not small. But it is not disproportionately large for the driving environment around Hackensack either, comparable in footprint to the Toyota Highlander (194.9 inches) and the Chevrolet Traverse (204.3 inches). The Explorer's 10-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift capability gives drivers precise control in stop-and-go conditions on Route 4 and Main Street, where gear selection matters more than raw power. The 7.6-inch ground clearance is a practical advantage on Hackensack's older road surfaces,  uneven pavement, patched asphalt, and the occasional raised manhole cover that characterizes dense urban streets across Bergen County. How Does the Explorer Perform on Route 4 and the GWB Approach? Route 4 runs east from Fair Lawn through Hackensack toward Fort Lee, terminating at I-95 near the George Washington Bridge approach. For Hackensack and Lodi residents commuting toward New York City, this is the daily route, and it involves a specific mix of stop-and-go commercial district traffic and aggressive highway merges. The 2026 Ford Explorer base engine is a 2.3L EcoBoost inline-4 producing 300 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic. On-ramp acceleration and the aggressive lane changes that the GWB approach demands are handled without drama. For buyers who want more, the available 3.0L EcoBoost V6 produces 385 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque, standard on the ST trim and available on the Tremor. EPA-estimated fuel economy on the base 2.3L engine is 20 MPG city and 29 MPG highway with rear-wheel drive, and 20 MPG city and 27 MPG highway with 4WD. For a three-row SUV doing daily Route 4 runs, that's a competitive fuel figure. At current New Jersey gas prices of approximately $4.15 per gallon for regular, a Hackensack-to-Fort Lee commuter driving 300 miles weekly spends approximately $62 in fuel, realistic for a vehicle this size in this environment. Is the 2026 Ford Explorer a Good Fit for Hackensack and Lodi Driving? This is the practical concern that most reviews don't address. Hackensack is an urban city with street parking, multi-story garages, and tight retail lots. At 78.9 inches wide, the Explorer requires awareness in tighter spaces, but no more so than any comparable three-row SUV. The standard rear-view camera is included across all 2026 Explorer trims. Ford's available 360-degree camera system on higher trims gives a bird's-eye view of the vehicle's perimeter,  a genuinely useful feature for Hackensack's parallel parking situations and tight garage columns. Rear parking sensors and Active Park Assist, which can steer the vehicle into parallel and perpendicular spaces automatically, are also available. For Lodi, where Route 17 and its intersecting commercial streets create some of the most congested retail parking in Bergen County, having the available camera and sensor suite makes a material difference in day-to-day usability. Standard Safety Features on the 2026 Ford Explorer Every 2026 Explorer comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot360™, a suite that includes: Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking Pedestrian Detection Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert Lane-Keeping System Rear View Camera Auto High-Beam Headlamps For urban driving in dense areas like Hackensack and Lodi, where pedestrian traffic is high, intersections are frequent, and lane changes on Route 4 happen under pressure, standard collision avoidance technology is not optional equipment. It's a daily tool. Visit All American Ford of Hackensack All American Ford of Hackensack is located at 520 River Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601. The 2026 Ford Explorer is available in inventory across multiple trims. If you want to test drive the Explorer on Route 4 or through downtown Hackensack before committing, the dealership can arrange that route specifically, and our Ford Service Center is available for all your maintenance needs once you drive home. FAQs Is the 2026 Ford Explorer too big for Hackensack's urban streets? At 198.8 inches long and 78.9 inches wide, the Explorer is a mid-size three-row SUV with substantial passenger and cargo space. It requires awareness in tight parking situations, but is comparable in footprint to the Toyota Highlander and other three-row competitors. What is the fuel economy of the 2026 Ford Explorer? The 2026 Explorer with the base 2.3L EcoBoost engine is EPA-estimated at 20 MPG city and 29 MPG highway with rear-wheel drive, and 20 MPG city and 27 MPG highway with 4WD. What engine does the 2026 Ford Explorer come with? The standard engine is a 2.3L EcoBoost inline-4 producing 300 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic. The available 3.0L EcoBoost V6 produces 385 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque, and is standard on the ST trim. Does the 2026 Ford Explorer have safety features for urban driving? Yes. Ford Co-Pilot360™ is standard across all 2026 Explorer trims and includes Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Information System, Lane-Keeping System, and a rear-view camera.
